"The Zhuhai section of the Xianghai Bridge is currently preparing for the road traffic safety project. According to the "Plan", in the first half of 2022, the Xianghai Bridge will be fully connected, becoming the third bridge connecting the east and west urban areas of Zhuhai. After opening to traffic, it will only take about 15 minutes from Xiangzhou Shellmaking to Doumen Huxin Road, with an estimated average daily traffic flow of 200,000 vehicles, which will effectively shorten the urban distance between the eastern and western urban areas of Zhuhai.

At the beginning of the new year, many major transportation projects in Zhuhai ushered in new progress. On February 22, the reporter came to the construction site of the TJ2 section of the Zhuhai Tunnel Project. On the construction site on both sides of the lower section of the Zhuhai Bridge towards Doumen, excavators and gantry cranes run back and forth, and workers enter the site alternately.

The Zhuhai Tunnel is located directly under the Zhuhai Bridge. It is planned to build 12 two-way lanes and connect with the main line of Zhuhai Avenue. The TJ2 lot is the "outpost" entering the bottom of the river, only 51 meters away from the closest point to the Xijiang River. Outreach to build a national comprehensive transportation hub city

Recently, the "Guangdong Provincial Comprehensive Three-dimensional Transportation Network Planning Outline" issued by the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Guangdong Provincial People's Government proposed to build a "2+3+8+8" multi-level hub city system, and build Zhuhai, Shantou and Zhanjiang. With the goal of building a core city on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary, Zhuhai is striving to open up the "Ren and Du two veins" of the transportation network.

At the end of 2020, the Honghe Bridge was completed and opened to traffic, becoming the second main road in Zhuhai connecting the east and west urban areas after the Zhuhai Bridge.

Data shows that over the past year, the average daily traffic volume of Honghe Bridge is about 37,000 vehicles, and the speed of Zhuhai Bridge has increased by about 30%, which has better relieved the traffic pressure in the east and west. Industry New District has accumulated popularity. "Working in the east, living in the west" has become the daily routine of more Zhuhai people.

In the same year, the Jinqin Express Line was completed and opened to traffic, opening up the main artery of the southern and northern urban areas of Zhuhai. The Qianshan area, the western part of Zhuhai, Hengqin and the northern high-tech zone were quickly connected, making it more convenient for vehicles from other places to enter and leave Zhuhai. However, the shortcomings of Zhuhai's transportation are still obvious. The 2022 Zhuhai Municipal Government Work Report pointed out that the functions of Zhuhai’s sea, land and air comprehensive transportation hub need to be improved, the construction of the transportation system for internal smoothness and external linkage needs to be accelerated, and the problem of traffic congestion during peak hours in the city is more prominent.

According to the plan, during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Zhuhai will stride forward in the direction of building a hub-type core city and a new modern and international special zone, laying the foundation for becoming a super-large city.

How to strengthen the leading role and rigid status of urban planning and make up for the shortcomings of transportation that restrict urban development?
