Rock Tech Lithium has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Romanian government to invest 400 million euros in the construction of a lithium hydroxide converter in the country. The new plant will produce materials used to make lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. It is expected to produce enough lithium hydroxide annually to make batteries for 500,000 electric vehicles. The planned Romanian lithium hydroxide converter will be Rock Tech Lithium’s second facility in Europe after its €470 million battery-grade lithium hydroxide production facility in Brandenburg, Germany.

The Romanian Energy Minister Virgil Popescu signed the MoU on behalf of the government. Popescu said: "I'm very happy that Romania is going to enter the map of the big battery component manufacturers. Because, we have to say, no battery can work without lithium. Basically these refineries, these two refineries are going to be built in Europe. , will produce this lithium powder, one in Germany and one in Romania. "Lithium is an energy source. We're not talking about lithium mining at the moment, probably in anticipation of a certain question from you about lithium mining in Romania. "

Rock Tech Lithium said the Romania plant is one of five lithium hydroxide converters it plans to build by 2029. Canadian Cleantech Chairman Dirk Habeck said the Romanian project will directly and indirectly create 700 new jobs. Currently, Rock Tech Lithium is looking for a site to build a lithium hydroxide converter. The Canadian company tweeted: "It took us almost two years to find and sign our first location in Brandenburg. In order to maintain our ambitious goals, we need to proceed wisely Long-term plan." Rock Tech Lithium's factory in Guben, Brandenburg, is scheduled to start operations in 2024. Once operational, it can produce nearly 24,000 metric tons of lithium hydroxide per year, enough to power nearly 500,000 electric vehicles equipped with lithium-ion batteries.Editor/XingWentao
