The massive Sotra Connection PPP project in Norway has now secured the necessary financing. The road infrastructure contract worth 2 billion euros is the largest to date in Norwegian history.
In 2021, Sotra Link was selected by the Norwegian Public Roads Authority (NPRA) as the preferred bidder for the concession. Sotra Link includes Macquarie Capital (70%), South Korean civil engineering firm SKecoplant (20%) and Italian industrial group Webuild (10%).
The Sotra Link concession package will be operated and maintained for 25 years, starting in 2027 when the link is completed. Meanwhile, the construction work will be handled jointly by the Spanish group FCC Construcción (35%), a partnership of Webuild (35%) and SK ecoplant (30%).
The public-private partnership (PPP) contract finances, designs, builds and operates a 9.4km four-lane road link in Norway's Vestland county, aimed at improving transport between the cities of Bergen and Øygarden. Construction includes a 4.6-kilometer double-tube tunnel road and a four-lane bridge of about 900 meters. The new road system will have dedicated public transport infrastructure, as well as pedestrian and cycle paths. The project also includes three smaller bridges. This is the largest and most complex road PPP planned by the Norwegian government for its National Transport Plan 2 2018-2029.Editor/XingWentao
