On March 22, 2022, the Xiamen Municipal Development and Reform Commission announced the "Xiamen Municipal Development and Reform Commission's Reply to the Feasibility Study Report on the Jimei-Tong'an Section of Xiamen Rail Transit Line 6". Subsequent Xiamen Metro Line 6 project (Phase 1 of Line 9) can be fully started after obtaining land use approval, construction project permit and other relevant procedures.

According to reports, the project has a total length of 30.7 kilometers, including the section from Jiageng Stadium to Tongxiang High-tech City (referred to as Jiatong Section) and the section from Huaqiao University to Binhai West Avenue (referred to as Huabin Section). After review, the total investment of the project is about 37.13 billion yuan.

Jiatong Section: The line starts from Jiageng Gymnasium Station, and is laid along the Future Science and Technology City, Tongan West Lake Area, and Tongan Old Town, and ends at Tongxiang High-tech City Station. One new section and one field will be built, namely Zhaiyang depot and Hongtangtou parking lot, and one new democratic substation will be built.

The fully automatic operation system is adopted, and the vehicles are grouped by 6 B-type vehicles, with a maximum running speed of 100 km/h, and 26 vehicles are initially equipped. Simultaneously implement the advance project for the development of the parking lot and the top of the depot and the civil engineering for the Jiageng Stadium Station in the Huabin section.

Huabin Section: The line starts from Huaqiao University Station (not included) of Line 6 of the under-construction track, runs southward along Jimei Avenue and Lehai Road, transfers with Jiatong Section near Jiageng Stadium, and then turns to Binhai West Avenue. It ends at Binhai West Avenue Station, with a total length of 4.5 kilometers. All of them are laid underground. There are 3 stations and 1 new parking lot.

The fully automatic operation system is adopted, and the vehicles are B-type vehicles. Initially and in the near future, 4 vehicles will be used, and 6 vehicles will be used in the long-term. The maximum running speed is 80 km/h, and the initial configuration is 3 trains. Simultaneously implement the advanced project for the development of the upper cover of the parking lot.
