The Indian government plans to build ten nuclear power plants in the country in "fleet mode" over the next three years. The Press Trust of India is quoted by NDTV as saying that the nuclear power facility will be developed within five years after the first pour of concrete (FPC). The FPC is scheduled to be commissioned in 2023 at the 700-megawatt Kaiga nuclear power plant in the Indian state of Karnataka.

An official of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) informed the Parliamentary Science and Technology Panel that "FPC of Kaiga Units V and VI is expected to be completed in 2023; FPC of Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Praiyonjan Units III and IV and Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Energy Project Units I to IV are expected to be completed in 2023 Completion in 2024, while FPC for units I and II of the Chutka Madhya Pradesh Atomic Energy Project is expected to be completed in 2025.”

The FPC process marks the start of nuclear power reactor construction from the early stages of the project, including excavation activities at the site of the nuclear facility. Procurement for these projects has begun, with orders for SS 304L lattice tubes and plates for end shields, Incoloy 800 tubes for 40 steam generators, forgings for steam generators, reactor header regulators and vents Gas condenser forgings. India currently has a total of 22 nuclear reactors with a combined capacity of over 6.7GW. In 2017, the government approved the construction of 10 locally designed Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) with a capacity of 700MW each by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL). The government approved all nuclear power reactors at the same time, with the aim of reducing costs and construction time. PHWR uses uranium as a fuel and heavy water as a moderator. The approval is part of the government's commitment to use clean energy in India's energy mix.Editor/XingWentao
