At about 11 am on April 2, 2022, a freight train loaded with metal leaching agents and other items blew its whistle at Nanning International Railway Port and will arrive in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, three days later. This is the first international freight train on the China-Laos Railway in Guangxi after the opening of the China-Laos Railway, opening up a new and convenient transportation channel for Guangxi to enhance bilateral economic and trade exchanges with Laos and expand cross-border logistics cooperation with RCEP countries.

The China-Laos Railway connecting Kunming, China and Vientiane, Laos is a landmark project for the joint construction of the Belt and Road between China and Laos. Since the opening of the whole line on December 3, 2021, many domestic provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) have successively opened the China-Laos Railway international freight trains, with destinations covering more than 10 countries including Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia. Only one month after the line was opened, 170,000 tons of cross-border cargo were transported, and the number of international freight trains opened in a single day reached a maximum of 6.

Guangxi is an important node and key area for the integration of the Belt and Road Initiative and the coordination of land and sea. It is also the only province in China that has both a land border and a maritime channel with ASEAN. After the China-Laos Railway was put into operation, Guangxi actively promoted the operation of international freight trains on the China-Laos Railway.

Under the joint promotion of the Department of Commerce of the Autonomous Region, China Railway Nanning Bureau Group Co., Ltd. and other parties, the first international freight train on the China-Laos Railway in Guangxi went smoothly on April 2. The first batch of 165 tons of metal leaching agent worth 1.782 million yuan was loaded at Nanning International Railway Port and bound for Vientiane, Laos. This is also the third railway cross-border freight transport channel to ASEAN countries that Guangxi has successfully opened after the new western land-sea channel rail-sea combined transport train and the China-Vietnam train.

It is understood that after the goods have completed the integrated customs declaration and inspection and release through the 95306 "digital port" system of Nanning International Railway Port, they can go directly to the Mohan Port of the National Railway along the Nanning-Kunming Railway and the China-Laos Railway.
