In the Jiuquan section of the Hexi Corridor, in the Gobi desert that stretches for more than 300 kilometers, nearly 7,000 wind turbines rotate against the wind, and nearly 90 million kWh of green power is continuously delivered to the central and eastern regions of China every day. Ten years ago, this was unimaginable. In 2012, this place was still a desert, and China's new energy power generation accounted for only 2.7%. The energy structure was relatively coal and energy efficiency was relatively low. Although it supported the rapid development of China's economy, it was accompanied by huge pressure on energy demand and relatively limited energy supply. There are many problems, such as serious damage to the ecological environment caused by energy production and consumption.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, a series of major plans and policies in China's energy sector have been introduced intensively, forming a strategic planning system for promoting the energy revolution. At the same time, the reform of the electric power and oil and gas systems was further promoted; the energy strategic emerging industries were actively cultivated; 15 key directions for energy technology innovation were identified, etc., and the energy revolution was in full swing.

In terms of energy production revolution, driven by key projects such as West-to-East Power Transmission and West-to-East Gas Transmission, Wudongde, Baihetan Hydropower Station, National Large-scale Wind Power, Photovoltaic Power Generation Base, UHV Transmission Channel and other key energy projects have been completed and put into operation one after another.

In the energy consumption revolution, we will continue to promote the elimination of outdated production capacity of coal and coal-fired power, accelerate the development of the new energy vehicle industry and the construction and development of charging facilities, and fully implement the replacement of electric energy such as all-electric kitchens, all-electric scenic spots, and all-electric ships.

In the energy technology revolution, China's independent third-generation nuclear power Hualong No. 1 has been completed and put into operation, the theory of deep natural gas accumulation and supporting technologies, shale oil and gas, and key technologies for deep-water exploration and development have made major breakthroughs. Hydrogen energy, energy storage, renewable energy . Significant progress has been made in coal-to-gas technology.

The energy consumption structure has undergone positive changes. The proportion of coal consumption will drop from 68.5% in 2012 to 56% in 2021, and the proportion of clean energy consumption will increase from 15.5% in 2013 to 25.5% in 2021. Since 2016, China has supported medium-to-high-speed economic growth with an average annual growth rate of about 3% in energy consumption.Editor/Ma Xue
