CATL participates in Indonesia electric vehicle battery integration project

Chinese battery maker CATL (CATL) has joined forces with Aneka Tambang (ANTAM) and Industri Baterai Indonesia (IBI) for an electric vehicle (EV) battery integration project in Indonesia involving a joint investment of US$5.97 billion. The project focuses on nickel mining and processing, battery materials, battery manufacturing and battery recycling.

Ningbo Contemporary Bang Puligen (CBL), a subsidiary of Guangdong Bang Bang Recycling Technology (Brunp), signed a tripartite framework agreement with ANTAM and IBI. Brump is a subsidiary of CATL. ANTAM is a member of Indonesia's state-owned mining company MINDID. On the other hand, IBI is an Indonesian state-owned company that is involved in EVs and the EV ecosystem. IBI is a subsidiary of MINDID and ANTAM.

Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment of Indonesia, said: "The framework agreement we signed today is very important for Indonesia as we are working hard to build an electric vehicle ecosystem. I believe that with the joint efforts of all parties, the project will be implemented smoothly. "

The EV battery integration project will be located in FHT Industrial Park, East Halmahera Province, North Maluku Province and other places. CATL said the project will further enhance its influence in the battery industry. It will also ensure the supply of upstream raw materials and resources, reduce manufacturing costs and encourage the development of battery recycling businesses, Chinese battery makers said.
