In the southern province of Rwanda, a flat, two-way asphalt road winds its way through rolling hills, connecting Huye, Kibeho, Mugnini, Ngoma and other towns. A few days ago, the reporter saw on the road from Hu Ye to Kibeho that there were lush mountains and large tea gardens along the way, with trucks, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians with overhead goods coming and going.
The 66-kilometer-long road was upgraded and renovated by China Power Construction Corporation (Power Construction), and the main road is now basically open to traffic. Sperada, a resident of Huye City, told reporters: "Because of poor road conditions, it took 3 hours to drive from Huye to Ngoma, and the road was bumpy. made a big difference.”
Pelada used to worry about travel. "Rough dirt roads lead to frequent traffic accidents. When it rains and muddy, public minibuses often get stuck in the mud, and passengers have to get off and push their carts." He found that the number of buses increased significantly after the road was upgraded. "There used to be only one or two buses a day on this route, but now there is a bus going between Huye and Kibeho every 30 minutes." He said that after the road reconstruction, merchants and farmers can easily transport their products to the market, and it is more convenient for students to go to school and patients to seek medical treatment.
As one of the cooperation projects between China and the Belt and Road Initiative, the road upgrade project started in April 2019, but was postponed to October 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Project manager Zheng Yao said the southern province is a major producer of high mountain tea. Good road traffic conditions can drive the export of alpine tea, promote local economic development, and improve the living conditions of residents. During the peak period of project construction, more than 600 local employees were employed and a group of equipment operators and skilled workers were trained. Project surveyor Usabimana said the road brought vitality and prosperity to the villages along the route.Editor/XuNing
