At the construction site of the Genting Tunnel of China Communications Construction Group Co., Ltd. (CCCC) Malaysia East Coast Railway Project, the largest diameter cut-and-cover hard rock tunnel boring machine (TBM) "Genting No. 1" exported from China recently completed the commissioning and trial operation of the whole machine. , the shield construction will officially start. A Chinese "Youth Commando" is working on Genting One.

22-year-old Wang Hengyang (transliteration) came to Malaysia shortly after graduating from university to participate in the Malaysia-East Railway project, one of the important projects of the Belt and Road Initiative. After several months of training and learning, Wang Hengyang became the operator of this huge machine "Genting One", and he felt an uncontrollable pride and excitement. The Genting No. 1 cutterhead is about 9m in diameter, 266m in length, with a total weight of over 1,600 tons and a construction distance of 13km. It is the largest underground "Big Mac" with the longest construction distance in Southeast Asia. Compared with the traditional drill and blast method, the TBM construction efficiency can be increased by 2 to 3 times, which plays a vital role in the entire project.

The East-Malaysia Railway project undertaken by China Communications Construction Corporation has a total length of more than 600 kilometers. After completion, it will become a "land bridge" connecting the east coast and west coast of the Malay Peninsula, driving the economic development of the east coast and greatly improving the connectivity along the route. The Genting Tunnel is located in the hinterland of the project, with a total length of 16.39 kilometers. It is a control project of the East Malaysia Railway Project.

Deep into the tunnel more than 200 meters into the mountain, it was hot and humid, and the roar was deafening. Walking in it has a cramping feeling like being in a deep sea submarine. Working in tunnels in overalls and helmets is a great test of human endurance. Dong Yuanxin, who is responsible for the maintenance of TBM's electrical equipment, shuttles through the long mechanical queue every day. "Every time I go to work, I have to hand over work with my former colleagues, check for hidden dangers, solve problems in time, and ensure the stable operation of electrical equipment." Dong Yuanxin, 22, said.

"We need to check about 280 major items, and it takes about 3 hours to check them all. It's like finding a few grains of sand in a pile of rice. Sand is hard to find, and it's easier to clean up after finding it." The 32-year-old maintenance team Chang Zhao Dong said. "Maintenance work must be down-to-earth, pay attention to details, not miss every problem, eliminate hidden dangers in the bud, and strive to ensure the good and stable operation of TBM machinery and equipment."

In the deepest part of the tunnel, on the working surface of the "Genting No. 1" cutterhead about three stories high, the reporter met Sun Guangbing, who was in charge of the construction management of the open and dark tunnels of the Genting Tunnel. The 35-year-old Sun Guangbing has worked overseas for nine years and has left his footprints in the UAE, Qatar, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. Sun Guangbing said: "Although I have worked overseas for many years, this is the first time I have participated in such a large-scale project as the East Railway Malaysia. As a site construction manager, we must not only ensure construction safety, check construction quality and progress, but also improve through management innovation. The cooperation efficiency of various types of work is our constant goal." Keywords: One Belt One Road, One Belt One Road News, One Belt One Road Project

From sunrise to sunset, from late night to dawn, this "Youth Commando" active in Genting Tunnel worked hard in ordinary positions in foreign countries, bursting out heroic youthful passion in the construction of the Belt and Road.Editor/XuNing
