The groundbreaking ceremony for the third phase of the Namibian Capital International Airport Expressway, aided by the Chinese government, was held in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, on the 9th.

Yang Jun, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Namibia, and John Mutorwa, Minister of Engineering and Transport of Namibia, attended the ceremony. Yang Jun said in his speech that the completion of this project will greatly improve the existing local traffic conditions and contribute to the overall development of Namibia.

In recent years, China has provided more than 20 aid projects in Namibia, covering agriculture, transportation, border defense, medical care, public governance and other fields. Mutova said at the ceremony that when the project is completed, it will have "extraordinary significance" for the local economy, environment, transportation and employment. China is assisting Namibia in expanding its road network and striving to realize the transportation vision and goals in Namibia's 2030 National Development Vision Plan. According to reports, the road project of the Windhoek Hozia Kutako International Airport is divided into three phases, with a total length of 45 kilometers, which are constructed by different Chinese construction companies, of which Jiangxi China Coal Group is responsible for the third phase. The total length of the third phase of the road is 21.3 kilometers, including three interchanges, and the contract construction period is 36 months. The full opening of the two-way four-lane motorway is expected to reduce the travel time from the international airport to Windhoek city centre from 45 minutes to 25 minutes.Editor/XuNing
