On May 9, 2022, the Anhui Provincial Energy Administration issued a notice on the implementation of the medium and long-term development plan for pumped storage (2021-2035) in Anhui Province. In terms of cost grooming, the document proposes to strictly control the unit cost of construction, improve the economic performance of the power station, and reduce the pressure on power station capacity and electricity cost grooming. Actively promote pumped-storage power stations to participate in mid- and long-term electricity transactions, spot market transactions, ancillary service markets or ancillary service compensation mechanisms.

It is proposed in the plan that by 2030, about 9.5 million kilowatts of new pumped storage will be needed. In order to meet the demand of the East China power grid, the reasonable construction scale of the pumped storage power station in Anhui Province in 2030 is about 17.5 million kilowatts.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, 9 pumped storage power station projects were approved, with an installed capacity of 10.8 million kilowatts. By 2025, 2030 and 2035, the cumulative installed capacity of pumped storage power stations in Anhui Province will reach 4.68 million kilowatts, more than 10 million kilowatts and more than 16 million kilowatts, respectively.
