At 14:28 on May 12, 2008, an earthquake of magnitude 8.0 occurred in Wenchuan, killing nearly 70,000 people, leaving 18,000 missing and more than 370,000 injured. An inescapable day. Disaster will pass, but memory will not. At that moment, the hearts of the Chinese people were tense, and no one could stay out of it. Whether on the scene or not, grief is shared. Now 14 years have passed by in a flash, and the cry of that year still seems to linger in my ears. The scene of the devastated land in Wenchuan is vivid in my mind. And the story that made us cry at the time has a new ending.

Seeing death is the biggest taboo

When an earthquake occurs, pregnant women are the most special group of people, they are afraid of rain and can't stand the toss. While they were threatened with death, they gave birth to new babies. But it was full of ruins at that time, and the township hospitals and maternal and child health care centers were in jeopardy, and there was no place to shelter from the wind and rain. Fortunately, the Luohan Temple is a wooden structure with little damage, so it is the only safe place. But the question is, Buddhism is a place of pure cultivation, and there is no blood. Are you willing to accept pregnant women?

All the worries proved to be superfluous. As soon as Master Suquan heard about it, he immediately opened the temple door and led monks to receive pregnant women in the rain, set up tents, "delivery beds", and boil water for cooking. The "services" were very thoughtful.

Not only that, he also established three temporary temple rules: unconditionally accept all the disaster-stricken people; unconditionally provide all the items that can be sent to the field; unconditionally provide the disaster-affected people with food and accommodation. The sky and the earth are big, and the affected people are the largest. In order to provide adequate nutrition for mothers, the monastery "opened meat" and let the monks starve. Master Suquan said a deafening sentence: "Seeing death is the biggest taboo. Except for this taboo, the others are not taboos."

In his view, the precepts are for monks, but not for victims of disasters. At that time, there was no place for surgery, so the monks immediately vacated the vegetarian room as a delivery room, the meditation table as a delivery bed, and the wooden stick as an infusion stand. Subsequently, newborns were born one after another, forming 108 "Rohan dolls". Zheng Yingtong, director of Shifang Maternal and Child Health Hospital, listened to the cry of the baby, and couldn't help tearing up: "She was born beside the ruins and brought us hope in life, and deeply felt that no disaster can overwhelm the Chinese nation."

Master Deen of Luohan Temple even sighed: "The number 108 represents perfection." In 2013, 108 "Arhat dolls" celebrated their birthdays together at Luohan Temple.

Still the same boy

When the earthquake struck, the rubble was full of cries. Despair wraps people around like air. And Xue Xiao, who was buried for 80 hours, could die in his sleep at any time. The rescuers had a plan and asked him, "What do you want to do after you come out?" The purpose was to stimulate his desire to survive. As soon as Xue Xiao heard this, his mind seemed like a dead tree in spring, and he felt the pleasure of being watered by Coke. Then he said heartlessly: "Uncle, remember my Coke, it's going to be frozen."

In a desperate situation, what could excite him more than Coke? This ridiculous scene makes people laugh. Since then, "Coke Boy" has become a synonym for optimism, which has slightly dispelled the haze that shrouded the hearts of Chinese people.

Xue Xiao's left arm was pressed for too long and had to be amputated to save his life. During his operation, many people came to the ward, all of whom brought Coke to him. It seems that Coke carries a huge "energy". Maybe it was fate, 10 years later, "Coke Boy" finally "realized" and became the curator of a Coke museum. Xue Xiao lived a sober life. He was "attractive" because of Coke, but he didn't like the fame. He wants to get rid of the "Coke Boy" label.

Once, when he was participating in the recording of the program, the host said to him: "Coke boy" not only represents the boy who wants to drink Coke, but also represents 'can be optimistic', a positive attitude towards life, a kind of Persist in the transmission of the spirit. "It was then that he realized that the label or something was not important, the important thing was that he wanted to pass on the "Coke Spirit" to more people.

When I grow up, I will be you

Fourteen years ago, when Liu Jia was still in middle school, the earthquake was so violent that it quickly trapped her. It is called Tiantian not working, and the earth is not working. At that time, there was no food to satisfy, only endless cold wind. Luckily, Liu Jia waited for the PLA, and the words that made her feel at ease: "It's okay, don't be afraid!"

This sentence warmed her for a long time. Those who have been favored always want to hold umbrellas for others. She said, "I will keep this kindness in my heart. I just want to do things and careers to help others in the future."

That's what she said and did, and she became a member of the People's Liberation Army very smoothly. Wherever it is needed, she will rush to it and do her best for every patient. She finally had a chance to say the words that she had hidden for a long time: "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, this time it's me."

Imperfect can live beautifully

For the survivors of the Wenchuan earthquake, any memory is cruel. Especially after being buried in the ruins, it is even more difficult for people who are physically disabled to live calmly. But deliberately escaping, will only pay more attention to other people's eyes, forming an insurmountable hurdle in the heart. Only by facing it squarely and drawing courage from it can it be possible to regain a new life.

When the Wenchuan earthquake happened, Niu Yu was only 11 years old, and she was buried by the rubble for three days. Although he escaped the catastrophe, he also paid a great price. More than 30 surgeries were performed on the left leg, and the right leg was amputated below the knee.

Since then, her life can no longer be separated from prosthetics. However, the "sequelae" brought by the prosthesis are obvious, such as prickly heat in summer and frostbite in winter. It will also cut her very badly. It was fatal for a girl who was very sensitive and inferior at one point and lost her social space because of it. She wanted to be like everyone else and look less "special". But this is not possible. Niu Yu's way of healing himself is writing. She took a very poetic pseudonym, "Spring Tour", hoping that she could live out herself. Niu Yu's transformation came when he participated in a marathon on the 10th anniversary of the Wenchuan earthquake.

In fact, she didn't run fast, but there were still countless audience members cheering for her: "Come on sister, come on China, come on Wenchuan..." In an instant, she "realized", and she was afraid of other people's eyes. A very absurd thing. She began to "free herself". It is to set up a studio, to learn documentaries, to teach, to join the crew... Her life is no longer limited by prosthetics. Editor/He Yuting
