New Zealand will soon have a 1GW large solar farm project. This is a big deal, as New Zealand's total installed solar capacity has barely surpassed 200 megawatts to date.
German investment agency Aquila Capital and local PV project developer Far North Solar Farm have joined forces to make this large-scale solar farm operational in 2022. In a statement released on May 12, both Aquila and FNSF said they were eager to start their portfolio of solar projects being developed in New Zealand, which could total up to 1GW of capacity once completed.
John Telfer, director of FNSFNZ, said: "We can't wait to start building the solar PV sites we plan and agree to, working with a global investor such as Aquila Capital committed to clean energy generation, and the scale of production we plan together, is not just for us but for The whole country is good."
The companies detailed how significant capital and resources will be invested in selecting, assessing suitable project sites, obtaining permits and consents to bring them into a ready-to-build state, which will take place in the North Island and North Island in 2022 as the 1GW pipeline is laid. Multiple project sites are laid on a single line in the South Island, supplying around 4% of the country's total annual energy needs and around 11% of New Zealand's current clean energy generation capacity.
This partnership is poised to support the government's emissions budget target, announced by Energy Minister James Shaw, and help deliver on a commitment to expanding the renewable energy sector in New Zealand, which is now targeting 90 percent by 2025. % of renewable electricity supply, a level of just over 80%, is mainly supplied by hydro, wind and geothermal resources.Editor/XingWentao
