On May 16, 2022, the Jiangsu Section of Wusong River Remediation Project, one of the major national water conservancy projects, started construction in Huaqiao Town, Kunshan City on the 16th, with a total investment of over 15 billion yuan. Minister of Water Resources Li Guoying attended the mobilization meeting and delivered a speech in the form of video. The Wusong River Remediation Project is the backbone project of accelerating the promotion of the national water network flood control and disaster reduction system in the 14th Five-Year Plan.

The Wusong River remediation project involves Shanghai and Jiangsu. The project in Jiangsu starts from the Taihu Guajingkou in the west, passes through the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and connects with the Shanghai section of the river at the junction of Jiangsu and Shanghai. The total length of the project is 61.7 kilometers.

After the project is completed, it will become the third flood channel of Taihu Lake, expand the capacity of the Taihu Lake basin to exit the Huangpu River in the east, and further improve the flood discharge capacity of Taihu Lake and the flood control and waterlogging removal capacity of the area along the project. At the same time, it can enhance the ability of water resources allocation, effectively improve regional water resources and water environment, and enhance the shipping capacity of the waterway between Suzhou and Shanghai.Editor/Ma Xue
