On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Croatia, Croatian Prime Minister Plenkovic said in an exclusive interview with reporters on May 17, 2022 that the congratulatory messages exchanged by the leaders of the two countries pointed out the direction for the development of bilateral relations. China deepens relations, consultations and economic and trade cooperation to promote the steady growth of bilateral trade volume.

Plenkovic said that over the past 30 years, the relations and cooperation between Croatia and China have been splendid, especially under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and the cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries. He participated in the China-CEEC Leaders Summit in 2021. The summit has promoted the continuous deepening of cooperation between China and Croatia and with CEECs. The Croatian Peljesac Bridge and the Senj Wind Power Project built by Chinese companies can be called the two countries. An example of win-win cooperation.

Plenkovic said that the Peljesac Bridge is the most important infrastructure construction project in Croatia, which will help the Croatian people realize their long-cherished dream of connecting the north and the south; the Senj Wind Power Project will effectively ease the power shortage in Croatia and provide Croatian consumers with Green energy. He welcomed more Chinese enterprises to invest in Croatia.

At the same time, Plenkovic also called on the EU and China to strengthen cooperation and dialogue on global issues such as global peace and security, climate change, and especially energy. After the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, he said, "we have witnessed a surge in energy prices, and the global dialogue on energy issues and energy supply is an area in which the EU and China should cooperate, which of course also includes Croatia."

Plenkovic said that in the past 30 years, the bilateral cooperation between Croatia and China has made great progress, and the future of the relationship and cooperation between the two countries will be even brighter, because the relationship and cooperation between the two countries have a very solid foundation. He recalled that after the outbreak of the new crown epidemic in Croatia, he called China to request medical assistance, and the Chinese side responded quickly and provided Croatia with a sufficient amount of medical supplies, which made him particularly grateful.

At the end of the interview, the reporter asked Plenkovic to write an inscription. He happily wrote: "I am particularly pleased with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Croatia and China, and I look forward to deepening our cooperation."

On May 13, 1992, China and Croatia established diplomatic relations. The relations between the two countries have developed smoothly, and the exchanges and cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, culture, education, science and technology have been fruitful.
