"It's a magical road to heaven, sending the warmth of the world to the frontier..." In 2005, a song "Road to Heaven" was sung across the river, attracting countless people to the mysterious snow-covered plateau to see the absolute beauty of snow-capped mountains and flowing clouds. Beautiful fragrance. In the mountains leading to the snow-covered plateau, another national key project is under construction. Between the continuous snow-capped mountains, under the blue sky, the standardized barracks with uniform style and reasonable layout are neatly arranged.

In March 2022, the builders of the China Energy Construction Gezhou Dam, who were fighting for the key project in Ganzi, Sichuan, moved into a standardized camp with complete functions, safety and comfort. In the "forbidden zone of life", the builders carry forward the spirit of the Gezhouba Iron Army of "especially able to endure hardship, especially able to fight, and especially able to contribute", and write new and greater miracles in the history of world architecture.

Every second counts

On November 30, 2021, the Construction Equipment Division of Energy China Gezhouba Trading Company, which has just been established for more than a year, received an urgent order from the superior: to build 8 standardized camps on the plateau that stretches for more than 50 kilometers and has an average altitude of 4,200 meters. Build more than 1,600 sets of standardized box-type houses to meet the functional needs of 3,000 people for office, living and living.

Time is tight and tasks are heavy. The party committee of the trading company immediately set up a camp construction team and drove to the scene as soon as possible. At the beginning of the plateau, this work team with an average age of only 33 years encountered the first "stumbling block": the construction site is as high as 4,000 meters above sea level, and the oxygen content is less than 46% of that in the plain area. Fatal danger.

In the face of the harsh construction environment and the tense construction period tasks, they were not afraid of difficulties and dangers, and quickly set up a party member commando team and a youth commando team, detailed and decomposed the construction tasks, reversed the construction period plan, and sounded the "50 days of hard work" charge horn. Take all measures and overcome all difficulties to ensure that the standardized camps are built as soon as possible and provide a strong guarantee for the construction of the main project.

"We must come up with the planning and design in the shortest time, and draw a blueprint for the construction of the camp." Designer Xie Wenjie said, "In those days, we ran between the mountains with measuring instruments during the day, and checked the original site and layout of each camp along the route. Conduct careful and meticulous on-the-spot surveys, drive to the lower-altitude county town at night to draw construction drawings, and work until 4 or 5 in the morning for several days.”

After the concerted efforts of the front and rear parties, in the early morning of December 6th, the designers issued a complete set of camp planning and design drawings, which were confirmed by the general contracting project department of the group that night, and passed the "design level" of the camp in 72 hours.

After the design was completed, the work team continued to work non-stop. Site leveling, material transportation, container house construction, installation and commissioning of complete sets of equipment, interior decoration... Items are progressing in an orderly manner.

"The installation progress should be accelerated, the work efficiency should be improved, the number of workers should be increased, and the safety management of personnel and equipment should be strengthened!" During the day, Chen Yong, general manager of the construction equipment division of the trading company, and Yang Lilong, secretary of the party branch, led 9 The staff were busy at the construction site; in the evening, a scheduling meeting was held to study and solve the blockages and difficulties encountered in the construction one by one, and the camp looked the same day by day, week by week and month by week.

Not afraid of hardships

"There are no birds in the sky, no grass on the ground, people look at people during the day, and stars meet at night." Walking on a plateau at an altitude of 4,000 meters is equivalent to carrying a 25-kilogram dough bag on the plain. The difficulty of construction work can be imagined.

In early December, the camps successively entered the stage of civil foundation construction. Affected by unfavorable factors such as harsh climatic environment, complex geological conditions, tight concrete supply, and insufficient manpower, the basic delivery time of each camp has been delayed to a large extent, which has seriously occupied the installation period of box-type houses. Difficulties and pressures are increasing day by day.

"Even if the construction period is tight, other construction sites can work continuously 24 hours a day, and the manpower can be replenished at any time. However, the temperature difference between day and night is huge, and the temperature at night will drop to more than minus 20 degrees, and strong winds of 7 and 8 are also common. In addition to field work and high-altitude work, there are great potential safety hazards, and it is not suitable for night construction." said Liu Guodong, the person in charge of the project site construction.

National Highway 318 is the only channel for the transportation of materials on the whole line. All trucks must cross the Zeduo Mountain, which is known as the "First Pass of Kangba". The Tibetan language "Zeduo" means "Benduo". bend. In winter, the Zeduo road is mostly covered with snow and ice, and in extreme weather, the snow can even be as high as 1 meter.

"Traffic jams in snow are a common occurrence. In the worst case, the driver was blocked on Zeduo Mountain for 4.5 days, and the goods were transported to the construction site for 8 days. Therefore, in most cases, we made advance measures and started from Hebei, Shandong, Sichuan and other places organize the stocking and dispatching of goods." Kang Yanbin, deputy general manager in charge of material and material security, said, "Some drivers have an asterisk on their health code when they cross the epidemic area, and they have to change their staff after arriving in Kangding, adding more It makes it difficult to replenish materials.”

Manpower shortage is the most difficult problem facing work teams. Due to the tight construction period and high intensity, 8 camps have simultaneously invested in multiple batches of box-type house installation teams from all over the country, with a total of more than 600 workers. What's worse is that most of the participants suffered from altitude sickness such as chest tightness, dizziness, headache, nausea and hand numbness to varying degrees, and more than 400 people left the venue one after another. Even the more than 100 workers who remained were greatly reduced in work efficiency due to insufficient oxygen supply.

"That day, I transferred 20 workers from a construction site in Gansu to help, but as soon as they worked, 19 of them had altitude sickness, and they had to return all that night." To this end, the project department gave full play to the role of the party branch as a fighting fortress and the vanguard of party members. Party members take the lead, face difficulties, and adjust strategies in a timely manner. All camps coordinate labor, rationally allocate operators, increase localized personnel allocation, and strictly carry out pre-job training to improve the efficiency of on-site construction operations.

Mission must be achieved

"When I built the two mountains, I was racing against the god of death. I didn't sleep a night for 4 days and 3 nights. Here, I think everyone is working hard. Camps 4 and 5 are truly no-man's land, with plateaus, high cold, and no signal. , this is the first time I have encountered such a difficult construction environment." The field operators who participated in the "Huoshenshan and Leishenshan" battles said with emotion.

Minor injuries can't get off the line of fire. During the peak period of construction, the construction tasks of each camp were advanced simultaneously, and the fronts stretched for dozens of kilometers, which made coordination difficult and management intensity high. At this time, 10 of the 11 comrades in the project management team developed symptoms such as colds and fever. In the face of challenges, everyone in the project management team is on their own. They lead by example and command the front. They are both commanders and combatants. They conduct on-site operations during the day and go to the county health center for infusions at night. In times of crisis, he has the mental outlook."

"Thinking in one place, working hard in one place." As a member of the project management team, Kang Yanbin is full of confidence, "As a reserve party member, I am very proud to be able to participate in such an important project, when 'the mission must be achieved' Become the value of life, then the hardships in the process will also become the beautiful scenery in my life.”

Distance and height, moment and eternity, snow on the plateau, ocean in my heart. With the unremitting efforts of all parties involved in the project, before the Spring Festival of the Year of the Tiger, Camp No. 3 was the first to be put into use; in mid-February, Camp No. 1, No. 2, and the main contractor site were delivered one after another; in early March, Camp No. 4 and No. 5 were delivered one after another. Use; so far, the overall goal of camp construction has been completed as scheduled.

Standing in front of the uniform barracks, looking back at the hard work along the way, Chen Yong sighed with emotion: "This is the most difficult and risky project I have encountered since I started working. It is really not easy from start to completion. I believe that after this 'paradise' project, we will have the confidence and ability to build it into a green, intelligent, standard, safe and humanistic camp, no matter how tight the construction period, the higher the standard, and the more complex the process of camp construction."

As far as the eyes go, the mountains and rivers are magnificent, and the footsteps have been printed, all of which are long roads. In the next main project construction, the builders who can build the Gezhou Dam in China will be inspired by the "two roads" spirit of "one is not afraid of hardship, the other is not afraid of death, tenacious struggle, willingness to serve as a road stone, military and civilian family, and national unity". Open the road, build a bridge when encountering water, continue to write a new and magnificent chapter with the spirit of the Gezhouba Iron Army, and continue to struggle for the paved road to a better life on the snowy plateau.
