On the afternoon of May 30, 2022, the world's first double-deck cable-stayed-suspension-cable coordination system bridge, the No. 3 main tower pier of the G3 Tongling Yangtze River Railway Bridge, which was constructed by China Railway Bridge Bureau, was officially transferred to the construction stage of large-volume caps. Significant progress has been made in the construction of the bridge.

A steel cofferdam is a containment structure made during the construction of water conservancy projects in deep water. It can prevent water and soil from entering the construction site for drainage and excavation of foundation pits in the cofferdam.

"The steel cofferdam of the No. 3 main pier is designed as a round dumbbell-shaped steel box structure, with a length of 104.6 meters, a width of 51.2 meters, a height of 32.5 meters, and a total weight of about 3,950 tons, which is equivalent to an 11-story building covering 10 basketball courts. It is the world's largest dumbbell-shaped steel cofferdam." Song Haitao introduced the G3 Tongling Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge Project of China Railway Bridge Bureau, the No. 3 main pier steel cofferdam is divided into 5 sections, which are transported and installed in 3 times. The first and second sections were installed in the sinking, with heights of 4 meters and 8 meters, respectively, and weights of 751 tons and 815 tons. After being produced in the Zhangjiagang factory in Jiangsu, it was transported upstream 420 kilometers by a self-propelled deck cargo ship with a deadweight of 14,500 tons to the predetermined pier, and two large floating cranes were used for double-machine lifting and installation.

The G3 Tongling Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge is one of the river-crossing passages planned in the "Layout Plan for the Trunk Line of the Yangtze River Crossing the River (2020-2035)". The project is also a major infrastructure construction project in Anhui Province.
