On June 1, 2022, Niger time, a delegation from the World Bank (BM) visited the Kandaji Hydropower Station project constructed by Energy China Gezhouba Group. It is reported that the World Bank delegation visited the construction sites of the upstream and downstream cofferdams and dykes, concrete pouring, mechanical equipment repair, earth-rock dam excavation and other construction sites of the second phase of the project. Coordinate the work of all parties in the project, provide financial support for the project, and hope to join hands with Gezhouba to complete this century project as soon as possible, promote local social development, and benefit the people of Niger.

The person in charge of the Niger Kandaji Project Department expressed his gratitude to the World Bank and the Nigerian government for their high attention, and said that 2022 is a critical year for the construction of the Niger Kandaji Hydropower Station. According to the situation, study the construction plan, step up the implementation of the construction tasks, start the construction boom again, and sprint the annual target tasks.

In April 2022, the project completed the installation, operation and commissioning of the mixing building and successfully carried out the production of concrete.

At present, under the premise of ensuring construction safety, quality and environmental protection, the project department has reasonably reversed the construction period, carefully organized, clarified tasks, and took multiple measures to ensure the stable and orderly progress of construction production and the smooth performance of the project.
Kandaji Dam Project
The Kandaji Dam project is located about 180km upstream of Niamey, the capital of Niger. The catchment area of the reservoir is about 393,000 square meters, and the total storage capacity of the reservoir is 1.5 billion cubic meters. During the construction of the project, it will provide thousands of jobs for Niger and cultivate a large number of technical talents for Niger. The installed capacity of the power station is 130MW, and the annual average power generation after completion can reach 617 million Kw.h. It will greatly solve the shortage of power supply in Niamey, the capital of Niger, and its surrounding areas, get rid of the predicament that Niger’s electricity mainly relies on imports, and promote local economic development; At the same time, it can also meet the needs of local people for irrigation, animal husbandry and domestic production water, reduce environmental pollution and water pollution, and improve the local ecology and living environment.
