On June 6, 2022, the Guangxi Datangxia Water Control Project Irrigation Area Project officially started construction in Guigang City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. According to reports, the Guangxi Datangxia Water Conservancy Project Irrigation District is one of the 150 major water conservancy projects deployed and implemented by the State Council, and it is also one of the six major irrigation districts that will be focused on promoting construction in 2022 as determined by the 167th executive meeting of the State Council in 2022.

The Guangxi Datangxia Water Control Project Irrigation Area is designed to have an irrigation area of 1.001 million mu, 652 kilometers of canals (pipes) to be constructed, and an installed capacity of 128,000 kilowatts of newly built and restored pumping stations, with a total investment of 8.008 billion yuan and a total construction period of 60 months. Guiping City, Pingnan County and Xingbin District involved in the irrigation area are included in the list of major grain-producing counties in the "National Plan for Newly Increased Grain Production Capacity (2009-2020)", among which Guiping City is the largest grain producer in Guangxi Base; Xingbin District and Wuxuan County are listed as key production counties in the National Development Plan for Main Sugar Cane Production Areas (2015-2020), and are important grain and sugar cane production bases in Guangxi.
