The S21 Altay-Urumqi Expressway is China's first desert adventure tourism demonstration expressway integrating transportation and tourism, and it is also an important part of the Xinjiang Silk Road skeleton road network. In the Gurbantunggut Desert, the second largest desert in China, the project headquarters led nearly 10,000 road builders to uphold the Populus euphratica spirit of never giving up, never admitting defeat, and willing to contribute. It only took 11 months. The main line of asphalt pavement was completed within the construction period, paving the road leading to life and hope on the uninhabited Gobi Desert.Editor/Ma Xue
