On June 23, 2022, the second phase of the Wen 23 gas storage project, a key project of my country's oil and natural gas infrastructure and one of the 102 major projects in the national "14th Five-Year Plan", officially started. After the completion of the project, the overall gas storage capacity of Wen 23 gas storage can be increased by 20%, which will further strengthen the gas storage peak regulation and emergency support capabilities of my country's natural gas pipeline network.

Wen 23 gas storage is located in Puyang, Henan, in the center of the North China Plain, with a total designed storage capacity of 10.3 billion cubic meters and a working gas volume of 4 billion cubic meters. It is planned to be constructed in two phases. The first phase of the project has a designed storage capacity of 8.4 billion cubic meters and a working gas volume of 3.2 billion cubic meters. It was completed and put into operation in July 2019.

The second phase of the project plans to drill 24 new injection and production wells, expand the existing injection and production station, increase the gas injection compressor unit, and build 4 cluster well sites and the main line project of gas injection, gas production, gathering and transportation. After the completion of the second phase of the project, 1.934 billion cubic meters of storage capacity and 735 million cubic meters of working gas can be added to achieve the construction goals of a total gas injection scale of 24 million cubic meters per day and a gas production scale of 39 million cubic meters per day. It is reported that Wen 23 gas storage is the natural gas storage and peak shaving facility with the largest storage capacity, the highest pressure and the strongest peak shaving capability in central and eastern China. Connected to the “one national network” of natural gas, the gas injection volume will exceed 1 billion cubic meters in 2022, and the average daily gas injection volume will reach 14.5 million cubic meters.
