On June 27, 2022, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian hosted a regular press conference. At the meeting, Zhao Lijian said that the so-called debt trap caused by the Belt and Road Initiative by senior US officials is a false proposition.

Zhao Lijian said that since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed 9 years ago, it has always adhered to the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, and has brought tangible benefits to the people of the countries concerned. According to the estimates of the World Bank, if all transportation infrastructure projects under the framework of the Belt and Road are implemented, by 2030, it is expected to generate US$1.6 trillion in annual revenue for the world, accounting for 1.3% of global GDP, of which 90% will be shared by partner countries. Low-income and lower-middle-income countries benefit more. Between 2015 and 2030, 7.6 million people will be lifted out of extreme poverty and 32 million people will be lifted out of moderate poverty.

Regarding the new initiatives put forward by the G7, Zhao Lijian emphasized that China always welcomes all initiatives to promote global infrastructure construction. I also noticed that a year ago, also at the G7 summit, the US put forward the "Building a Better World Initiative", promising to advance a global infrastructure initiative different from the Belt and Road Initiative, whether it is the "Building a Better World Initiative" , or some other initiative, what the international community wants to see is real money and projects that actually benefit the people.Editor/Ma Xue
