On June 30, 2022, the People's Government of Pingchuan District, Baiyin City, Gansu Province, and the People's Government of Baiyin District, Baiyin City, respectively, signed the investment in the Baiyin City Pingchuan District Pumped Storage Power Station Project and the Baiyin District Pumped Storage Power Station Project with Energy China Northwest Construction Investment Co., Ltd. Development intention cooperation agreement.

The Pingchuan District Pumped Storage Power Station is located in Pingchuan District, Baiyin City, Gansu Province. The installed capacity of the power station is initially planned to be 1 million kilowatts. It is initially estimated that the total investment during the construction period is about 8.24 billion yuan, which can boost the local GDP by about 10 billion yuan.

After the project is completed and put into operation, it can save about 440,000 tons of standard coal in the system every year, and correspondingly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.097 million tons, sulfur dioxide emissions by 33,000 tons, and nitrogen oxides by 16,000 tons.

After the project is completed and put into operation, it will mainly undertake peak regulation and frequency regulation to ensure the safe and stable operation of the power grid, with outstanding social benefits. The project construction will drive local investment and industrial development, provide various jobs for more than 3,000 people, and improve transportation and local townships and rural areas. The production and living infrastructure is of positive significance for promoting the development of local tourism, protecting the environment and saving resources.

The preliminary estimated investment scale of Baiyin District Pumped Storage Power Station project is about 7.7 billion yuan. The project is located in Baiyin District, Baiyin City, Gansu Province. The initial installed capacity of the power station is 1 million kilowatts. The peak-shaving dependence of the main power grid enhances the ability of local consumption of new energy, increases the proportion of green power consumption in Baiyin Industrial Park, and also ensures the safe and stable economic operation of the regional power grid.

Up to now, there are a total of 77 pumped storage projects in the five provincial-level administrative regions of Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, and Xinjiang under the jurisdiction of the Northwest Region, of which 50 have been included in the "14th Five-Year Plan" pumped storage project plan.
