On July 8, 2022, the China-Europe Floating Offshore Wind Power Cooperation Forum opened in Wanning, Hainan. The forum invites government representatives, European embassies in China and leading Chinese and European floating offshore wind power companies to exchange views on topics such as floating offshore wind power technology innovation, cost reduction and efficiency enhancement, and industrial development, to discuss the win-win development of the floating offshore wind power industry in China and Europe.

Pan Huimin, deputy director of the International Cooperation Department of China's National Energy Administration, said at the opening ceremony of the forum: "From the perspective of international experience, it is an inevitable trend for the large-scale development of offshore wind power to move from offshore to far-sea, and floating offshore wind power is the development of deep-sea wind power. One of the main forms of wind power generation.” The Chinese government strives to start the construction of China’s first floating commercial offshore wind power project during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and will also promote a batch of 100,000-kilowatt deep-sea offshore wind power demonstration projects in areas with good resources and construction conditions. Construction. Europe is the birthplace and leader of floating offshore wind power. Strengthening exchanges and cooperation between China and Europe in the field of floating offshore wind power is of great significance for promoting the upgrading of the offshore wind power industry of both sides, and accelerating the development of clean energy and the green and low-carbon transformation of energy.
Two months ago, the EU launched a green energy development plan that includes large-scale, high-quality development of offshore wind power, said Vien Fauve, Counselor for Energy and Climate Action at the EU Delegation to China. In the floating offshore wind power sector, it will further cooperate closely with China.

Wang Xiaojun, deputy general manager of China Power Construction Corporation, said that China's far-reaching sea wind energy resources are very rich and the development prospects are very broad. For example, Hainan Province has excellent wind energy resources. The wind speed above 100 meters in the coastal waters is between 7.5 meters and 9 meters per second. The medium and long-term offshore wind power development potential is expected to reach about 50 million kilowatts. Wang Xiaojun revealed that POWERCHINA will invest in the construction of the world's first large-scale floating offshore wind power project with an installed capacity of 1 million kilowatts in the Wanning Sea area in the near future, so as to promote the technological progress and industrial development of floating offshore wind power in China.
Chen Wanxin, Deputy Secretary-General of the Hainan Provincial Government, said: "Wind comes from the sea, Hainan has the largest sea area in the country, and abundant wind energy resources are fertile ground for the development of the offshore wind power industry." During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Hainan plans to further extend the offshore wind power industry chain. Eleven offshore wind farms will be constructed with a total development capacity of 12.3 million kilowatts. In Hainan Province, clean energy consumption accounts for about 40%, and clean energy installed capacity accounts for about 71%. It is planned to increase to 81% and 94% respectively by 2035.Editor/Zhao E
