The Madrid regional government has signed a contract worth 500 million euros with a consortium of ACS, Acciona and Rover to undertake the civil works for the 6.9-kilometre extension of Metro Line 11, which runs from Plaza Elíptica to Conde de Casal.
The expansion will have four intermediate stations, including two new stations in Comillas and Madrid Río. It will also serve the existing Madrid metro stations on line 3 Palosdela Frontera and line 1 Atocha, providing interchanges for high-speed, long-distance, regional and suburban rail services.
At Conde de Casal on line 6, an overpass will be constructed to serve the A3 motorway corridor. Work on the expansion will begin in late 2022 and will take three years and six months to complete.
Line 11 is being expanded to create Madrid's diagonal, 33 kilometers from Cuatro Vientos in the southwest to Valdebebas in the northeast. It will connect seven major interchange and transport hubs in Madrid, including Atocha Train Station and Barajas Airport. Keywords: engineering news, overseas news
