POWERCHINA Laos Nam Ou River Basin Power Generation Co., Ltd. announced when it held the first public open day event at the Nam Ou River Power Operation and Maintenance Management Center in Luang Prabang, Laos, as of 6:00 on July 12, 2022, POWERCHINA invested and constructed in Laos. The cumulative power generation of cascade hydropower stations in the whole basin of the Nam Ou River has exceeded 10 billion kWh, providing a steady stream of clean power support for the economic and social development of Laos.
One Belt One Road Success Stories
The Cascade Hydropower Project in the Nam Ou River Basin is located in Luang Prabang and Phongsali provinces in northern Laos. The project includes seven cascade hydropower stations with a total capacity of 1.272 million kilowatts. All power stations in the basin will be put into operation at the end of September 2021.

According to statistics, the power stations invested by POWERCHINA in Laos can guarantee more than 12% of the electricity supply in Laos, and the power generation in the dry season accounts for 30% of the country's electricity consumption. These power stations produce strong, stable and clean electric energy to provide power guarantee for the operation of the China-Laos railway and the economic and social development of the territories.

During the public open day event on July 13, 2022, more than 60 teachers and students from Laotian universities and media reporters from China and Laos went to the Nam Ou River Basin Power Station, the reservoir area, and the immigrant village to observe and listen to the detailed explanation and situation introduction of the power station operation and maintenance team. The teachers and students of the observation team watched the rotation of the power station units and turned the Nanou River into electricity and sent it to thousands of households. They saw Chinese companies build new immigrant villages, build roads and bridges, protect the green ecology of the reservoir area, and do public welfare. They also learned about Chinese companies, Chinese culture has expressed that they will work hard to be a good bond and bridge of friendly cooperation between Laos and China in the future.

Li Zhigong, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Luang Prabang, said in the theme exchange event that afternoon that the Nam Ou River Cascade Power Station is a successful case of POWERCHINA giving full play to its own advantages and participating in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative with high quality. On the same day, the Lao Association of Chinese-funded Power Generation Enterprises also inaugurated the Nam Ou River Power Operation and Maintenance Management Center. The association is composed of 13 Chinese-funded power generation enterprises registered in Laos. These enterprises have invested and repaired 18 hydropower stations in Laos, with a total installed capacity of 2,256 MW in operation, accounting for 49.7% of the installed capacity of the Lao national power grid system.Editor/XuNing
