It is reported that the project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2024. After it is put into operation, it can achieve an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of lithium hydroxide. The lithium material produced can meet the power needs of 1.5 million new energy vehicles, and the life cycle of the battery can be reduced by about 1 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The project is an investment agreement signed in October 2021. The groundbreaking ceremony was held this time, marking the official entry of the project into the actual construction stage.

Albemarle Sichuan's lithium hydroxide battery material project with an annual output of 50,000 tons is an important part of Albemarle's strategic layout in the Asia-Pacific region. It is the largest fixed asset investment project of Albemarle in China so far.

Huang He, deputy secretary of the Meishan Municipal Party Committee and mayor, pointed out that the Albemarle Sichuan Lithium Hydroxide battery material project with an annual output of 50,000 tons is the largest single manufacturing project with foreign direct investment in Sichuan Province, which reflects the high investment environment and development prospects of Albemarle in Meishan.
