The Baltic Sea Pipeline project, scheduled to start in early October 2022, opens up a new supply corridor for the European market by transporting natural gas from Norway to Poland, Denmark, Sweden, the Baltic states and the central and eastern countries of the European continent.

A 900-kilometer-long offshore and onshore natural gas pipeline, the Baltic Pipeline project, has been connected to transmission systems in Poland and Denmark, GAZ-SYSTEM said. The final welds linking the pipeline to the Danish transmission network in Faxe and the Polish transmission system in Pogorzelica have been completed.

Baltic Sea Pipeline Project

The Polish gas transmission system operator has partnered with Denmark's TSO Energinet on a gas infrastructure project aimed at opening a new gas supply corridor in the European market. The pipeline project will transport natural gas from Norway to Poland, Denmark, Sweden, the Baltic States and Central and Eastern Europe. The partners reached a final investment decision on the Baltic pipeline project in late 2018.

Tomasz Stępien, President of GAZ-SYSTEM, said that today we can say that the Baltic Pipeline Offshore Gas Pipeline is technically part of the national electricity transmission system. With this investment, we have integrated the Polish and Danish gas networks, opening up a new gas supply corridor for the Central and Eastern Europe region. We still have some launch and gasification work ahead of us, followed by the launch of the transmission on the planned date of October 1, 2022.

The Baltic Pipeline project consists of five main parts. These include the North Sea Offshore Pipeline from the Norwegian Gas System in the North Sea to Denmark, the Danish Onshore Pipeline, the Danish Compressor Station, the Baltic Sea Offshore Pipeline and the Polish Onshore Pipeline. The offshore section of the pipeline is nearly 380 kilometers long.

Various preparatory activities have been carried out ahead of the docking of offshore and onshore pipelines in Denmark and Poland, GAZ-SYSTEM said. These include cleaning offshore pipelines, hydrostatic testing, dehydrating the pipeline, and finally, drying the pipeline. Keywords: engineering news, overseas news

On Danish territory, Energinet carried out the connection work by welding a nearly 120m-long section in an already prepared open channel, which connects the onshore pipeline with the offshore pipeline. In Poland, the matching operation is done by GAZ-SYSTEM. TSO carried out similar activities, including soldering a 90m long connector.Editor/XingWentao
