On August 2, 2022, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Kaani said when answering a reporter's question about US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan:

Respect for national sovereignty is one of the basic principles of the UN Charter. Article 2 of the UN Charter stipulates that member states shall not in any way compromise the territorial integrity and political independence of other states. The Islamic Republic of Iran regards respect for the territorial integrity of all countries as one of the foundations of its foreign policy, and firmly supports the one-China principle. The recent actions of US officials to interfere in China's internal affairs and damage China's territorial integrity are examples of the US's interventionism against other countries in various regions of the world, which will only increase tension and expand disputes. The Iranian side condemns this. Unilateralism, violations of international law and international obligations have become a fixed part of US foreign policy. The withdrawal of the United States from multilateral agreements such as the JCPOA and the imposition of illegal and inhuman sanctions on Iran fully proves that the United States has no credibility.

The one-China principle is the basic principle by which China establishes diplomatic relations with other countries and constitutes an integral part of the post-World War II international order. The communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States clearly stated that the United States recognizes the government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legal government of China, and within this scope, the people of the United States will maintain cultural, commercial and other unofficial relations with the people of Taiwan. The U.S. Congress is an integral part of the U.S. government, and Pelosi is the third-ranking figure in the U.S. government. She should strictly abide by the one-China policy of the U.S. government and strictly abide by the political commitments the U.S. has made to China. China has always opposed US congressmen visiting Taiwan, and believes that the US executive has the responsibility to prevent it. However, the U.S. side says one thing and does another, and has no integrity at all. The US side has repeatedly reiterated that the US one-China policy has not changed and will not change, and the US side does not support Taiwan's "independence". However, Pelosi insisted on visiting the Taiwan region of China, leaving the US political commitment behind, and letting the international community further see who is changing the status quo in the Taiwan Strait, who is undermining Sino-US relations, who is undermining regional peace and stability, and who is undermining the international order. This has touched China's bottom line.Editor/XingWentao
