On March 4, 2020, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Serbia stated that Serbia plans to start construction of a new river port in Belgrade by the end of 2021.
The ministry said in a statement earlier this week that the ministry is considering building new ports at three locations, one of which is near the Beljarica wetlands on the Danube.
The potential location of the new port is moved upstream of the Beljarica site, so the construction of the port will not have a negative impact on the environment, and most importantly, it will not negatively affect certain animal and plant species found in the central and southern parts.
The ministry said a company consortium led by Serbian company Hill International is currently preparing a preliminary feasibility study for the project, which is funded by 800,000 euros ($ 890,000) provided by the Western Balkan Investment Framework.
In May 2019, Minister of Infrastructure Zorana Mikhailovich stated that the Serbian government will invest 300 million euros to develop water transport in the country, including reconstruction of Belgrade, Sremska Mitrovica and Bogota Port. Editor / Huang Lijun
