The Xiangshan Tunnel is located in Shapotou District, Zhongwei City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, with a total length of 17.763 kilometers and a design speed of 250 km/h. The tunnel crosses the Xiangshan Mountains with complex geological conditions, traversing 9 faults and 4 shallow buried water-rich sections. Unfavorable geology such as karst, rock burst, high in-situ stress, gas and other harmful gases, soft rock deformation, and Upper Tertiary water-bearing weakly cemented sand is difficult to construct. It is a high-risk tunnel and a key control project for the entire line.
The Zhonglan section of the Yinlan-Lanzhou high-speed railway leads from Zhongwei South Station in the east and connects to the Lanzhou hub via Lanzhou New District in the west.
After it is completed and opened to traffic, it will open up the bottleneck of the lack of fast passenger passages in Northwest China connecting North China and Northeast China. The Zhonglan section of the Yinlan-Lanzhou high-speed railway is expected to be ready for operation by the end of 2022.
