On August 10, 2022, Sinopec achieved a major breakthrough in the "deep engineering" implemented in the field of oil and gas exploration and development. In the Shunbei Oil and Gas Field in the Tarim Basin, China, Sinopec has established four 100-million-ton oil and gas fields, and 15 thousand-ton wells with an average vertical depth of more than 8,000 meters.

"Shendi No. 1" - the Shunbei deep oil and gas field project, located in the central and western part of the Tarim Basin, has the characteristics of ultra-deep, high temperature and high pressure. The average burial depth of the reservoir exceeds 7,300 meters. One of the discovered resources reached 1.7 billion tons of oil equivalent. At present, the deepest well depth of "Shendi No. 1" directional well reaches 9,300 meters, setting the deepest record in Asia. These wells can be called "underground Mount Everest".

In order to extract oil from the "underground Mount Everest", China has mastered the ultra-deep oil and gas advanced and fast drilling technology, and conquered key technologies such as ultra-high-strength casing and drill pipe, and deep and ultra-deep layers have become the main positions of China's major oil and gas discoveries . China's deep and ultra-deep oil and gas resources amounted to 67.1 billion tons of oil equivalent, accounting for 34% of China's total oil and gas resources.Editor/Ma Xue
