Yu Yunchang, 58, is an engineer in Suzhou who has been engaged in the research and design of reactors for more than 30 years. In high-voltage long-distance power transmission, reactors play a role in reducing power loss and ensuring safety.

In the 1990s, 85% of China's ultra-high voltage reactors were imported from abroad. Yu Yunchang took 8 years to overcome the two world problems of local overheating and vibration exceeding limit. In 2007, he won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

Today, the reactors designed by him are used in major projects such as West-to-East Power Transmission and Three Gorges Transmission.Editor/Ma Xue
