On August 16, 2022, the Guangxi Longyun Irrigation District Project officially started construction. It is understood that the project is one of the 150 major water conservancy projects deployed and implemented by the State Council, and it is also one of the six major irrigation areas that will be focused on promoting construction in 2022 as determined by the 167th executive meeting of the State Council in 2022.

Guangxi Longyun Irrigation District Project

Guangxi Longyun Irrigation District mainly solves the problems of agricultural irrigation, urban and rural life and water supply in industrial parks, and creates conditions for improving the regional water ecological environment. The main construction content of the project is to build three reservoirs including Panlong, Zhongganling and Yunliang; build a new diversion canal of 11.94 kilometers, build 4 water main pipes (canals) of 34.53 kilometers, and build 29 branch pipes (canals) of 34.05 kilometers. There are 26 pumping stations, and the existing irrigation area's backbone canal system will continue to be built and supported, and water-saving renovations will be carried out.

It is understood that the total construction period of Guangxi Longyun Irrigation District is 54 months, of which the construction preparation period is 6 months, the construction period of the main project is 52 months, and the total investment is 5.278 billion yuan. The construction preparation period mainly completes the site leveling, on-site roads, construction factories, production and living houses, water supply, power supply and other projects. The main content of this construction is the construction of Zhongganling Reservoir.

Yulin City is an experimental area for cross-strait agricultural cooperation and is vigorously developing characteristic agriculture. Beiliu City, which is involved in Longyun Irrigation District, is included in the national grain production core area, and Yuzhou District, Fumian District, and Luchuan County are included in the national grain production increase reserve area. The construction of Longyun Irrigation District is of great significance for ensuring national food security.

After the completion of the Longyun Irrigation Project in Yulin City, Guangxi, the regional water resources can be allocated reasonably. It is estimated that the newly increased irrigation area will be 210,000 mu, the restoration area will be 88,000 mu, and the irrigation area will be improved by 242,000 mu. Water supply in tourist resorts, high-speed railway new towns and other areas, with an average annual water supply of 361 million cubic meters, benefiting 2.26 million people. The implementation of the project will create positive conditions for strengthening food production security and urban and rural living and industrial water supply in the project area, improving the ecological environment of the Nanliu River, developing tropical agriculture and promoting the revitalization of local villages.
