Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power Company confirmed last week that it is preparing a tender as part of a tender for a solar project in Uzbekistan with a planned capacity of 5 gigawatts.
The head of ACWA Power said in its first-half investor presentation that the company is currently preparing and submitting bids for a competitive process for a 500 MW PV IPP project in Uzbekistan.
Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Paddy Padmanathan said: "I am pleased to see the bidding space accelerate after a slow start to the year due to unexpected global geopolitical and economic turmoil. "
Last month, the Uzbekistan Energy Ministry and State Grid Corporation of China announced the list of 11 prequalified bidders who are eligible to proceed with the 500 MW solar tender and participate in the tender phase. ACWA Power is one of the shortlisted companies.
Submissions under the RFP will be accepted until October 10, 2022. ACWA Power's financial report also mentions three wind power projects in Uzbekistan: Bash (500 MW), Deshankerdi (500 MW) and Nukus (100 MW) and a 240 MW wind farm in Azerbaijan Power generation projects have been impacted by the ongoing war in Ukraine, a high-cost environment and tightening supply chains.
