On the afternoon of August 17, 2022, the National Railway Group organized a pre-feasibility study review meeting for the Lop Nur to Ruoqiang Railway. The government, the Second Division of the Corps, China Railway Urumqi Bureau Group Corporation, China Railway First Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd., Xinjiang Railway Survey and Design Institute Co., Ltd. and other units attended the meeting.

The project is a national medium and long-term railway network planning project and the "14th Five-Year Plan". The total length of the line is 236 kilometers. The railway class is National Railway Class I, and the design speed is 120 km/h. The project is an important part of the railway skeleton network in Northwest my country, and mainly undertakes passenger and cargo transportation between Hotan, Kashgar, Hami and the mainland. The implementation of the project is of great significance to strengthening the functions of the two major channels, the middle channel and the south channel, in the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt, improving the layout of the railway network in southern Xinjiang and eastern Xinjiang, and promoting the development of regional advantageous resources along the route.
