Larsen & Toubro, an Indian multinational company engaged in EPC projects, high-tech manufacturing and services, today announced the commissioning of a green hydrogen plant at its AMNaik heavy engineering complex in Hazira, Gujarat. The plant was inaugurated by Mr. Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, Chairman of Indian Oil Ltd. Green hydrogen production based on an alkaline electrolysis process started today. The plant will produce 45 kilograms of green hydrogen per day for self-consumption at the company's Hazira manufacturing plant.

Green Hydrogen Plant, with an electrolyser capacity of 800kW, including alkaline (380kW) and PEM (420kW) technologies, will be powered by a rooftop solar power plant with a peak DC capacity of 990kW and a 500kWh battery energy storage system (BESS). As part of the first phase of the project, a 380kW alkaline electrolyzer has been installed, while a 420kW PEM electrolyzer, as well as increasing the solar power plant capacity to 1.6MW peak DC, will be part of a future expansion. This move is in line with L&T's Lakshya-2026 climate leadership goals, which will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 300 tons per year for us and our customers. We believe green hydrogen is a promising alternative fuel, and this plant is a testament to our commitment to creating a greener tomorrow.

The factory covers an area of 3,000 square meters, and the first phase of the project has been installed, tested and commissioned. The scope covers the production of high-purity green hydrogen and oxygen, and their own consumption on the manufacturing floor. A 15% mixture of hydrogen and natural gas will be used as fuel, and oxygen will complement existing uses in cutting and welding applications. To ensure safe operation and production, the factory design incorporates active and passive safety systems and will be operated through a state-of-the-art control system with remote monitoring capabilities. Additionally, an integrated data analytics platform designed by L&T will provide insight into the performance of the electrolyser and the entire plant. Keywords: engineering news, overseas news
As part of its ESG commitment, L&T has pledged to be water neutral by 2035 and carbon neutral by 2040. Make green hydrogen an integral part of its clean fuel adoption policy. L&T's climate change, energy efficiency and renewable energy plans are aligned with the National Climate Change Action Plan published by the Government of India. The company’s plans are also in line with the Nationally Determined Contributions approved by the Indian government during the COP21 – Paris Agreement.Editor/XingWentao
