The German and Danish governments have reached an agreement to expand the capacity of the Bornholm energy island, an offshore wind hub in the Danish part of the Baltic Sea. Under the terms of the agreement, the capacity of the energy island will be increased from 2GW to 3GW to enable clean energy to be transmitted to the German grid via 470km of underwater cables.

Danish Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Dan Jørgensen said the agreement strengthens the already close Danish and German energy cooperation and strengthens our ties by adding another power link between our two countries.
The Energy Island is truly a milestone in the history of energy and comes at a time when international cooperation is more urgent than ever. The Bornholm Energy Island will provide enough clean energy for nearly 4.5 million households in Germany while increasing electricity trade between the two countries. The move is also expected to reduce their energy dependence on Russia.

The Bornholm energy island is part of Denmark's plan to increase its offshore wind capacity fivefold by the end of the century. German Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck said the cross-border energy cooperation project with Denmark is a flagship project. Green electricity from the Bornholm Energy Island will complement the country's electricity generation and reduce our reliance on fossil energy imports. Keywords: engineering news, overseas news
Through such projects between European partners, we simultaneously achieve two key goals: European energy security and climate neutrality. Last month, Germany and the UK reached a financing agreement for the NeuConnect project, which aims to create the first direct power connection between the two countries.Editor/XingWentao
