The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has published the UAE Climate Responsibility Company Commitment. The pledge aims to increase private sector participation in the country's decarbonisation drive under the UAE's Net Zero Emissions by 2050 initiative.

The pledge is said to form the core of future collaborations between the private sector, NGOs and international organisations, including that of the Emirates Nature and World Wildlife Fund. The latter is said to be a strategic implementing partner for the pledge and will seek support as private sector entities implement their net zero plans.

The launch of the pledge is part of MOCCAE's call to scale up UAE climate action in response to the Glasgow Climate Pact, the outcome of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference, which aims to get countries to seek higher greenhouse gas reduction targets. In May 2022, four regional experts spoke with Middle East Consultant about the region's journey to net zero.
"We are delighted to launch the UAE Climate Responsibility Corporation Commitment, and there is no better place than at the NDCA, where we build rapport with all sectors to raise their climate ambitions and turn them into Our net zero driven active partner. This pledge will help the UAE government engage with entities keen to make a positive contribution to the climate neutrality movement and align their efforts to achieve our shared goals. All companies are invited to show that they care about their climate impact and that they are ready and willing to translate their commitments into practical action by signing the UAE Climate Responsibility Pledge.

MOCCAE noted that the launch is part of the fourth edition of the National Climate Ambition Dialogue, a series of industry-specific sessions to establish a national sustainability vision and inform the country's pursuit of climate neutrality. The theme of the fourth NDCA is a roadmap to achieve net zero in the hospitality industry.
In June 2022, SNC-Lavalin released the Engineering Net Zero Report in the GCC, which aims to help the region achieve its net zero carbon goals. MOCCAE said the organisations had pledged to reduce their carbon footprint by measuring and reporting their greenhouse gas emissions in a transparent manner, developing an ambitious scientific plan to reduce their carbon footprint, and working with the UAE government to contribute to achieving the national net-zero emissions target by 2050 . In addition, the signatories commit to make climate change mitigation and adaptation core values and principles of their business and operating models, and to take an inclusive approach that engages youth, women and socially disadvantaged groups in developing their net-zero emissions. plan.
MOCCAE concluded that the strong interest from companies in signing the pledge reflects private sector entities' awareness of the serious threat of climate change and its adverse impacts on the environment, food security, water security and public health.Editor/XingWentao
