Recently, Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) launched a tender for a 100MW solar project. The project is located in Uva Province, Sri Lanka, and adopts the BOO model.
The project consists of a 100MW solar power plant and a new 132kV transmission line. The closing date for the project is October 21, and a 20-year power purchase agreement will be signed with CEB upon completion.

According to the results of a joint study conducted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Asian Development Bank, Sri Lanka has a solar energy development potential of about 16GW, and the country plans to cover all its electricity needs with renewable energy by 2050.
According to IRENA data, by the end of 2021, Sri Lanka has an installed solar capacity of 434MW. Sri Lanka's Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, in collaboration with the Sustainable Energy Authority, Ceylon Electricity Authority and Lanka Power Company, launched the Soorya Bala Sangramaya scheme in 2016, with plans to add another 1GW of solar capacity by the end of 2025.
