On September 13, 2022, the reporter learned from the Municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and Chongqing Energy Group that an important breakthrough has been made in the "Xinjiang Power into Chongqing" project. Recently, the Xinjiang Development and Reform Commission has approved the construction of Xinjiang Chongneng Shitomei 2 × 1 million kilowatts coal. The power project was constructed by Xinjiang Chongneng Power Development Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Chongqing Energy Group.

The so-called "Jiangsu Power into Chongqing" means setting up power plants directly in Xinjiang, using Xinjiang coal to generate electricity, and then sending the electricity directly to Chongqing through UHV lines. The project approved this time is the supporting power supply for the Hami-Chongqing UHV DC project. It is planned to build a 2×1,000,000-kilowatt coal-fired unit in Hami City, with a total investment of about 7.2 billion yuan. It is understood that "Xinjiang Power into Chongqing" will not only develop thermal power, but also vigorously develop wind photovoltaic and energy storage projects.

Industry insiders believe that the approval of the project marks the beginning of the substantial implementation of "Jiangsu Power into Chongqing", which is of great significance to ensuring the continuous and stable supply of electricity in Chongqing in the future and promoting the sustainable and high-quality economic and social development of Xinjiang and Chongqing.
