Recently, the Wuhai Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment issued a public announcement on the approval of the environmental impact assessment documents for the construction project of Inner Mongolia Junzheng Chemical Co., Ltd.

Inner Mongolia Wuhai Coal Chemical Project

Inner Mongolia Junzheng Chemical Co., Ltd. plans to build 2×600,000 tons of BDO and 2×1,000,000 tons of PBAT/PBS/PBT and PTMEG green environmental protection recycling industry project in Wuda Industrial Park, Wuhai City, Inner Mongolia. And the PTMEG project with an annual output of 2 × 120,000 tons. The first phase of the project is constructed in two phases, 1.1 and 1.2 respectively. The total investment of the project is 13 billion yuan.

It is reported that Inner Mongolia Junzheng Chemical Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Inner Mongolia Junzheng Energy Chemical Group Co., Ltd. The project uses coke oven gas, calcium carbide, methanol, etc. as raw materials to produce degradable plastics PBAT/PBS/PBT and fine chemicals. The product is polytetrahydrofuran (PTMEG), which has a good market prospect and is in line with the national industrial policy.

The construction site of the project is located in the fine chemical industry and supporting focus area of Wuda Industrial Park. The contents of this EIA approval are 2×29062.5Nm3/h coke oven tail gas hydrogen production plant, 2×100,000 tons of acetylene plant, 2×400,000 tons (55%wt) formaldehyde plant, 2×300,000 tons of BDO plant, 2× 120,000 tons of PTMEG plant and corresponding supporting facilities. The project uses coke oven gas, calcium carbide, methanol and other raw materials to produce 1,4-butanediol (BDO), and then uses 1,4-butanediol (BDO) as raw material to produce polytetrahydrofuran (PTMEG), which belongs to fine chemicals and new materials project.

The coke oven gas used in the production of the coke oven gas hydrogen production unit of the project is supplied by the 2.4 million tons/year coking project of Inner Mongolia Meifang Coal Coking Co., Ltd., which is 0.67km away from the southwest side of the project site. The amount of coke oven gas that can be supplied is 4.65×108Nm3/a (58125Nm3 /h), transported into the plant by pipeline.

According to the "Notice on Printing and Distributing the Implementation Plan for the Integration, Restructuring, Upgrading, Optimizing and Improving of the Coking Industry in Wuhai City (Trial)" by the Office of the Leading Group for the Restructuring and Upgrading of the Coking Industry in Wuhai City: It was completed and put into operation in June. Before the trial production, the 5.5-meter tamping coke oven of Inner Mongolia Meifang Coal Coking Co., Ltd. (Phase II) was shut down and the main equipment was dismantled; before the end of 2023, the 4.3-meter tamping coke oven of Inner Mongolia Taihe Coal Coking Co., Ltd. The 4.3-meter tamping coke oven of Coal Coking Co., Ltd. was shut down and the main equipment was dismantled to complete the phase-out.” Inner Mongolia Junzheng Chemical Co., Ltd. plans to build a 3 million tons/year coking integration and upgrading supporting project, which will replace Inner Mongolia after the coking project is completed and put into operation. The 2.4 million tons/year coking unit of American Coal Coking Co., Ltd. supplies coke oven gas raw materials to the project.
