On September 20, 2022, China Energy Construction Gezhouba Group and South Korea's Hyosung Group signed a contract for the current exchange project of the Ethiopian State Grid South Extension Transmission Project. The project will be constructed along the Omo River Basin. The new transmission and transformation lines and substations are designed to Improve the electricity consumption level of residents in remote areas of Ethiopia and improve the quality of life of local residents.

The Ethiopian National Grid South Extension Transmission Project is located in the Omo River Basin in southern Ethiopia. The main project contents include the expansion of 2 substations, the construction of 3 new substations, and the design, supply, construction, testing and commissioning of two 230Kv and 132Kv transmission lines and other related projects, the source of project funding is the Export-Import Bank of Korea. Ethiopia is rich in electric power resources, and the Ethiopian government is vigorously promoting the development of electric power resources and the construction of supporting infrastructure for power transmission and distribution. The implementation of this project will provide a strong guarantee for Ethiopia's people's livelihood and economic construction with electricity, help Ethiopia to export electricity to neighboring countries, and build an East African power center.
