Norwegian property manager Niam has partnered with solar developer Solkompaniet through its Niam Infra Fund to develop a 500MW solar portfolio in southern Sweden. The solar projects in the portfolio will have the capacity to power 120,000 homes in central and southern Sweden. They will require a total investment of over 300 million euros.

Solkompaniet CEO Axel Alm said Solkompaniet has been building solar parks since 2010, but it is only now that the size of the parks means they are an essential part of our electricity supply. The first solar park we will individually develop and build for Nyam is equivalent to the number built in Swedish history by 2021.

Niam and Solkompaniet are currently developing two 80MW solar facilities under a framework agreement. One of them is the OstraEneby solar facility on the outskirts of Norrkoping, which is said to be the most progressive of the two. The Ostra Eneby project is expected to come online by the end of 2024.

Sverker Akerblom, CEO of Niam Infrastructure, said Sweden has good conditions for solar parks and our long coastal areas have ample land and good solar radiation. Niam wants to contribute to making solar an important part of Sweden's energy system. Keywords: engineering news, overseas news

Sweden's electricity demand is expected to double due to electrification currently underway, and solar could meet some of the increased demand relatively quickly in southern Sweden, where near-term demand is high. Niam invests in real estate assets in the Nordic countries and Nordics, focusing on real estate and infrastructure.Editor/XingWentao
