It is reported that the Songzi pumped-storage power station project is located in the territory of Xiejiaping Tujia Township in Songzi City, and is newly built by the National Energy Group Changyuan Electric Power Co., Ltd. with an investment of 8.198 billion yuan. After technical and economic comparison of the project, it is determined that the installed capacity of the power station is 1200 MW, the normal storage level of the upper reservoir is 596 meters, the corresponding storage capacity is 9.59 million cubic meters, and the normal storage level of the lower reservoir is 211 meters, the corresponding storage capacity is 12.86 million cubic meters.

In September 2021, the Songzi Pumped Storage Power Station project was included in the National Energy Administration's "Medium and Long-Term Development Plan for Pumped Storage (2021-2035)" and became one of the key implementation projects in Hubei Province during the "14th Five-Year Plan". In just one year, the project passed the project pre-feasibility study, the selection of normal water level, the general construction layout, the layout of the hub and other special reports, and completed the preliminary work such as the project land pre-examination and site selection opinions, resettlement outline and planning report. , complete the predetermined goal ahead of schedule. Next, the project will strive to complete the project feasibility study before the end of the year, and start the main project in June 2023.
