Recently, the first domestic line of China's first ten thousand ton 48K large tow carbon fiber project was put into operation in Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Carbon Fiber Industrial Base and produced qualified products, which marked that Sinopec's large tow carbon fiber project moved from key technology breakthrough, industrial trial production, industrialization success to large-scale and localization of key equipment. The production line is planned to be completed and put into operation in 2024, and will reach the production capacity of 24000 tons/year precursor and 12000 tons/year large tow carbon fiber.

Sinopec said that the biggest advantage of 48K large tow is that under the same production conditions, it can greatly improve the single line capacity and quality performance of carbon fiber, and reduce production costs, so as to break the application limitations brought by the high price of carbon fiber.

Carbon fiber is an inorganic fiber with a carbon content of more than 90%. It has lightweight and high strength mechanical properties, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, good conductivity and heat conductivity and other advantages. It is regarded as the "king of new materials" and also has the reputation of "black gold" - that is why some people also refer to 48K large tow carbon fiber as "48K black gold".
