On October 19, 2022, the Qiongdongnan Basin in the southeast sea area of Hainan Island, China, achieved a major breakthrough in exploration. The first deep-water deep atmospheric field in China, Baodao 21-1, was discovered. The proven geological reserves exceeded 50 billion cubic meters, achieving the largest breakthrough in Songnan Baodao Depression in more than half a century.

The Baodao 21-1 Gas Field discovered this time is located in the deep-water area in the southeast sea area of Hainan Island. The maximum operating water depth exceeds 1500 meters, and the completed drilling depth exceeds 5000 meters. It is about 150 kilometers away from the "Deepwater No.1" ultra deep-water atmospheric field. The marine geological conditions are complex.

According to introduction, through target optimization, CNOOC researchers found that Baodao 21-1 has a structural background of large-scale delta development, most likely a large and medium-sized gas field. The first pre exploration well deployed encountered a gas reservoir of 113m, setting a record for the thickest single well gas reservoir in deep water. According to the test, the daily output of natural gas is 587000 cubic meters. The review approved that the proven geological reserves of natural gas exceed 50 billion cubic meters, and the proven geological reserves of condensate exceed 3 million cubic meters.Editor/Ma Xue
