On October 30, 2022, the world's first 2.7 MW efficient and compact tandem twin wind turbine unit, Huaneng "Sairui", was launched at the ceremony of its entry into the "Energy Valley" of the Future Science City, a central enterprise, China Huaneng Group Clean Energy Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd.

"Sairui", led by China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., breaks the inherent limit of the industry that wind energy can only be captured and utilized through one wind turbine. It adopts compact tandem dual wind turbines, which breaks through and realizes the world wide problems of coordinated energy capture and efficient cascade utilization of wind energy by multi-stage impellers for the first time, and solves the bottlenecks of low wind energy capture efficiency and excessive blade size that have long restricted wind turbines.

The wind energy capture efficiency of "Sairui" is more than 15% higher than that of traditional wind turbines, and the size of fan impeller is reduced by nearly half, which means that in wind farms of the same area, the number of units and power generation capacity can be significantly increased by more than 50%, saving a lot of land and energy resources.

At the same time, the unit has lower requirements on materials, manufacturing, transportation, installation, operation and maintenance, and the cost is also reduced. It has broad application prospects in northeast, northwest and eastern coastal areas of China.Editor/Ma Xue
