On Oct 30, 2022, a pep meeting was held in Shantou, Guangdong for the construction of the East Guangdong Inter-City Railway Ring-1 Ray project, marking that the project has fully entered the construction stage.

It is reported that the east Guangdong intercity railway ring and ray project connects Shantou station, Chaoshan station, Jieyang station, Chaoshan Airport and other external transportation hubs, the total length of the line is about 140 kilometers, the highest design speed of 160 kilometers, set 31 stations, a total investment of about 50.9 billion yuan, the construction period is tentatively 4.5 years, planned to open in 2027. Among them, the Chaozhou East to Chaoshan Airport section of the East Guangdong intercity Railway contracted by China Railway First Bureau is located in Chaozhou city.

The whole line is divided into 5 segments

Shantou to Chaoshan Airport section: The total length of the route is 45.8 kilometers, with 10 stations including Shantou, Longhu Affiliated Middle School, Times Square, Shantou No.1 Middle School, Bus terminal, Jinfeng Peninsula, Lai Cuo, Liantang, Didu and Sangpushan.

Chaozhou East to Chaoshan Airport section: 24.6 kilometers in length, with 6 stations: Chaozhou East, Ruyi, Fuyang, Chaoshan, Jieyang Airport T2 (reserved), Chaoshan Airport;

Chaoshan Airport to Jieyang South section: The total length of the line is 15.5 kilometers, with 4 stations including Fort, Yu Lake, Changmei and Jieyang South;

Jieyang south to Jieyang section: the total length of the line is 12.2 kilometers, Qining, Huangqishan, Jieyang and other 3 stations;

Chaozhou East to Shantou SECTION: The TOTAL length of the line is 42.4 kilometers, with Xiangqiao, Peninsula Square, Hanjiang New Town STATION (reserved), Longdu, Lianyang, Chenghai, Waisha, Longhu and other 8 stations.

It is understood that the design of the project adopts a small group, high frequency, public transportation organization mode to reduce the waiting time of passengers and further improve the efficiency of travel. At the same time, a combination of stops at major stations and stops at stations is adopted to operate a variety of train crossings such as circle line cars and point-to-point in the city center, so as to better meet the needs of various passenger flows.
